Belts and Hoses in Markham

Are you looking for car belts and hoses in Markham? My Team Auto has everything you need. Many issues can occur that cause significant damage when your belts and hoses fail. You may experience a loss of the electrical charging system, a loss of power steering, or an overheated engine.

Belts and hoses are crucial parts of your engine as they work with the engine’s charging, cooling, and air conditioning systems. Over the years, hoses have not changed much. They are flexible rubber parts that handle the engine’s vibrations. On the other hand, belts have changed significantly over the years. Nowadays, the serpentine belt and the timing belt are what you have to pay attention to in your vehicle.

It is best to go to a leading repair center when you need help. That is when you should call in the experts at My Team Auto. We are waiting for your call and ready to answer your questions.

    Belts and Hoses in Markham

Let’s talk about belts and hoses.

Paying attention to these things will ensure that your car is running smoothly. Although there is no set time or mileage when these parts need to be changed, there are recommendations to follow to keep up with your vehicle’s maintenance. Additionally, oil, heat, abrasion, and ozone can all negatively affect both hoses and belts.

Sometimes people may feel like paying for maintenance is a waste of money. But keeping on top of your car’s needs can help ensure no future issues. When it comes to the belts, ask your mechanic to inspect them during every oil change.

Some situations can make belts and hoses have a shorter lifespan. Severe climates with heat and dust can make rubber more brittle due to dryness. Stay on top of the condition of your vehicle’s parts, so there are no unwanted surprises.

    Serpentine Belt

Serpentine belts, also called drive belts, aid in powering the cooling fan, air injection pump, power steering pump, and air conditioning compressor. These belts wear out in time, yet the more modern versions don’t tend to slip and stretch like the older ones.

The engine can overheat when this belt breaks since there is no power going to the water pump even if the car still runs. An overheated engine can end up damaged. Clues that there is a problem with the serpentine belt include difficulty steering or a rise in temperature (look at the temperate gauge).

Usually, you need to replace this belt every 80,000 kms. Yet research shows they can fail as early as  58,000 kms. If you hear a stretching noise from the engine when taking a sharp turn or turning on the car on a cold morning, go to My Team Auto for a quick revision.

    Timing Belt

This notched rubber belt lets the crankshaft turn the camshaft. Without the timing belt, the engine won’t work, and significant damage could occur.

This belt may work up to 160,000 kms, but professionals should inspect it often to ensure all is well. Most should be replaced between 95,000 to 130,000 kms. Seeing cracks or striping shows it is time for a replacement. There could also be a warning sound when the belt slips. It sounds like a slapping noise from the engine.

Some vehicles have a timing chain made of steel instead of a timing belt. This belt is lubricated by engine oil and lasts for much longer than the belt version.

    Hoses

There are coolant and heater hoses. The coolant hoses include the upper and lower radiator hoses, while some cars also have a bypass hose. Hoses create a flexible connection for the coolant flow between the engine, radiator, heating block, fuel lines, vacuum lines, air conditioning, and power steering.

If hoses become cracked on the inside, they may burst and then overheat the engine. Have professionals review the hoses and their clamps twice a year. Hoses should be changed every 80,000 kms but should be inspected for breaks, cracks, and dryness regularly.
